1. Paw Licking and Chewing: If your dog is constantly licking, biting, or chewing at their paws, especially between the toes, yeast is the most likely cause. You might notice brown or reddish staining on light-colored fur. That discoloration is yeast. The licking isn't a habit. It's a response to relentless irritation your dog can't escape.

2. Head Shaking and Ear Scratching: Frequent head shaking, ear scratching, or rubbing their ears against the carpet or furniture. When you look inside the ear, you'll often see dark brown or black waxy discharge. It may smell sour or musty. This is yeast colonizing the ear canal. It's uncomfortable and, if left unaddressed, can become painful.

3. That "Frito" or "Corn Chip" Smell: This is the one owners mention most. A musty, stale, corn chip-like odor that doesn't go away no matter how frequently you bathe your dog. Where Yeast Actually Comes From (It's Not Where You Think)

Here's what virtually every dog owner in America is unaware of: the yeast that causes all that itching, all that smell, all that discomfort doesn't start on the skin.

It starts in the gut.

This is the part that most owners, and honestly many of my colleagues, overlook entirely.
